The Mets?!?

Jose Reyes

What in the world is going on with the Mets?

I haven’t checked a calendar but is it 2006 again? I am actually enjoying watching the games. I am at a point now where I can watch and win or lose, I don’t want to throw things at the TV.

It wasn’t just that they have been losing so much the last three years, it has been how they have lost. Uninspired, boring, lazy, bad baseball is not fun to watch, even when you win.

Exciting, dramatic baseball, where guys are hustling their butts off is fun to watch, even if they lose.

I don’t think they will win 8 out of every 9 the rest of the way, not with this pitching staff. But there is no reason to think we cannot take 2 out of 3 here and there. We are talented, young, home-grown and playing with energy.

The D and I sat and watched a 10-5 beating last night and were as entertained as I have been in years watching these guys.

It is not coincidence that this has all come when we brought up Ike Davis, and Jose Reyes is heathy. We have young guys all over the field mixed with Vets like Bay and Santana who are playing great.

I fully expect to lose games, it’s baseball (remember that whole game of failure thing), but as long as we are playing like this, I can live with the losses.

This weekend is going to be awesome. Three in Philly, if we can pull off 2 out of 3, I will have become a believer again.

“Show Me Your Papers”

Show me your papers

Have you ever watched a film that depicted Nazis that didn’t contain the phrase “Show me your papers”?

The answer is no, no one has. And this, in essence is what we have now in the great state of Arizona.

What I think about this law is fairly irrelevant, I have very little experience with illegal immigration. I do know that American citizens are American citizens. I know that the Tea Baggers are all about getting the Gov’ment out of their personal lives, as long as it is their personal lives, not the personal lives of Brown People that the Gov’ment is getting all up in. In this case, my guess is they are all for this.

I think Joe Scarborough says it far better than I could

“…It does offend me when one out of every three citizens in the state of Arizona are Hispanics, and you have now put a target on the back of one out of three citizens, who, if they’re walking their dog around a neighborhood, if they’re walking their child to school, and they’re an American citizen, or a legal, legal immigrant — to now put a target on their back, and make them think that every time they walk out of their door they may have to prove something. I will tell you, that is un-American. It is unacceptable and it is un-American.”

You read that right, that was Joe Scarborough, not Joe Biden. I think that speaks volumes about this. We are talking about American citizens being asked to produce their papers. Is there a problem with illegal immigration in this country? Absolutely there is.  I just have to think this is not a great way to begin to deal with the issue.

The Ryan Howard Extension

Ryan-O

Ryan Howard is a monster, there is no doubt about it. The guy straight up hits bombs.

I rarely criticize Phillies GM Ruben Amaro jr. I would kill to have this guy running the Mets instead of Omar, but I think he screwed up with this one.
Howard, who at 29 is among the better players in the league, in no way is a $25 million a year player, not now, and at 35, when he is still cashing checks from the Phils.
I typically hate everything about big Red. I hate their fans, I hate their damned winning.
But, this time I am not alone

The general consensus seems to be that although the Phils have made some tremendous moves (See Halladay, Roy) recently, this was not one of them.

Student Teaching

My Head…Your Wall

Well, the student teaching thing is winding down.

I am less than three weeks away from being done with little social experiment.

It has gone faster than I could have imagined. I have measured the time in Avi’s growth. The last 12 weeks have flown by, as I assume the next three will.

My advisor is coming out to see me “work my magic” (his words) this week, for the last time.

As this thing winds down, I have been thinking more and more about what comes next in my life.

I return to Hillside, I return to getting paid, and I start to figure out what I have to do in order to get hired to teach. It is a scary proposition.

I am unsure of my ability to do this, I really am.

I worry that I have lost so much time with Avi. I know she will never know the difference, that I am there and she sees me, but I know that I have missed time with her.

So as this thing comes to an end, and I begin the next phase in this process, I am excited and scared and unsure.

It’s a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no telling where you might be swept off to

NFL Draft!!

There was a time in my life when Draft Day was literally a holiday for me.

Some things have changed in my life, priorities and what not, thankfully, the NFL has complied with my needs and adjusted the schedule.

Instead of having to Waste spend an entire Saturday following every pick, I can now get my parenting and home owning responsibilities out of the way during the day and watch the draft at night. Thank you NFL.

Now, as far as the picks go, is there any way that Suh falls to the Bucs at pick #3? Probably not, but I can hope can’t I?

The Bucs can really do no wrong with this pick, short of picking Jimmy Freaking Clausen. If they land Suh, I am thrilled, if they draft Gerald McCoy, I am happy, if they pick Eric Berry, I am still happy.

Although I have grown up a bit and don’t quite follow all of this as closely as I might have once upon a time, I will be watching tonight, and tomorrow night, and Saturday.

Lets Go Bucs

It looks like there could be a few Penn State guys going in the first round or two, which is awesome. Jered Odrick is an awesome, solid player who will make an awesome 3-4 D end. Or a 4-3 1 technique.

Call me a Tim Tebow hater, but there is absolutely no reason for this young man’s name to be called at any point either tonight or tomorrow night. He is going to be a marginal NFL player, at any position. I don’t want to hear about how much he has won at the College level, the guy has been surrounded by the best college talent in the country for four years. Remember that Percy Harvin guy?

If anyone falls through the first round, god I hope it is Jimmy Clausen. I have never hated a player the way I hate this kid.

Google Opt Out Village

Google Opt Out Feature Lets Users Protect Privacy By Moving To Remote Village

I own an Android phone, opperated by google.

They know who I am calling, what I am buying, what my card numbers are, where I live, where I go, what I search, what I own, you name it, google knows it…

This from a guy who doesn’t think, he knows, that Robots are going to take over the world.

The New Bike

The new bike is here and in the garage waiting not-so-patiently for some decent weather, which I guess is the price of living in Rochester and owning a motorcycle.

It is a 2002 Yamaha Road Star Warrior. Sporting a massive 1700cc engine. I was surprised by the power difference between the old bike (V-Star 1100) and this one.

Lowered the back-end the night we got it. Going to replace the mirrors with some lower profile end of bars mirrors.

The list of adjustments that I would like to make is short and simple, which I like.

All-in-all, I have the motorcycle that I am going to ride for at least the next five or six years, if not longer. I definitely won’t need anything bigger.
