Moving to a New Site- CoachTerryG.com

before afterI have thought long and hard for a while about separating my personal and professional blogs. For a few different reasons, the time has finally come to do so.

So as of today, I am proud to announce that I have migrated my fitness posts to a new site dedicated to posts concerning fitness and exercise.

If you came to this site looking for information on diet, exercise, fitness or any of the numerous programs offered by Beachbody, you can now find all of those posts at www.CoachTerryG.com

When I initially began coaching through Beachbody, it was convenient to simply use my personal blog to post about my journey towards fitness. I had already posted much of my transformation here, and it was easy to continue to do so.

What I should have done then, and what I have done now, is to create a separate site, dedicated to posting only about fitness advice and my experiences.

I will continue to use this blog space to post about whatever pops into my head, as it was originally meant for and as the title implies. If you came here looking for fitness and exercise information, please direct your browser to www.coachterryg.com.

Ramping Back Up

I have been working hard since New Year’s with a P90X2/Asylum hybrid of my own design, however it is time to get back into it full-bore.

Starting tomorrow I am joining in a challenge group with a bunch of crazies who are tackling a P90X2/Asylum (of Asylum Vol. 2 depending on what people have) hybrid that is going to be INSANE.

It has been about six months since I have joined a challenge group like this and I am very much looking forward to the daily accountability that a challenge group provides.

I have mentioned here before how the one downside of working out at home is that you are really only accountable to yourself. Therefore, if you are one of those people who finds themselves making excuses or talking yourself out of a workout, it helps to have the support of a group (ours is on Facebook) that can keep you accountable and motivated.

Prior to joining the Facebook group, I would get through my workouts, but often wasn’t challenging myself to push harder. With daily challenges for specific moves and the support of the group, taking it easy really isn’t an option.

I have also decided to go (almost) supplement free for this challenge. I say almost because I am going to continue to drink my Shakeology daily, along with a scoop of whey protein and maybe a pre-workout drink. Aside from that, there will be no additional supplementation. That means no creatine, BCAAs, nothing. I am interested to see how my body responds to the challenging schedule along with work and everything else.

I plan on taking “Before” pictures this week (something I haven’t done since I completed Body Beast in October).

I turn 30 next Saturday and have been thinking a lot about what that means and how far I have come even from a few years ago. I began my P90X weight loss journey on March 15th of 2010, so we are rapidly approaching my three-year anniversary. It is really hard to fathom at times how far I have progressed from those early days of squeaking out three or four pull-ups with my foot on a chair doing Chest and Back.

If you own P90X2 and either Insanity: the Asylum or Asylum vol. 2, and are interested in joining us, you can check out the proposed schedule HERE and join our Facebook group by sending me a message on Facebook or through email.

P90X2-Asylum Hybrid

I just wanted to give a quick update on my workout schedule. Going into the holidays, I was feeling a bit in a rut with my workout schedule. I was doing P90X2 or Insanity daily and just wasn’t feeling it.

I decided after the new year to jump back into a P90X2-Asylum hybrid schedule. So far, about three weeks into it I am loving it. I had forgotten how much “harder” the Asylum is that traditional Insanity. By harder, I mean just that I am far more tired, and burn more calories during a typical Asylum workout than an Insanity one.

My typical week looks like

Monday- X2 Chest Back and Balance (or Chest Shoulders and Tris)
Tuesday- Asylum Speed and Agility
Wednesday- X2 Shoulders and Arms (or V-Sculpt)
Thursday- Asylum Vertical Plyo
Friday- Asylum Strength
Saturday- X2 Yoga
Sunday- Rest

For a rest week, I will do something like:

Monday- X2 Core
Tuesday- Asylum Relief
Wednesday- X2 Total Body
Thursday- Asylum Back to Core
Friday- X2- Balance and Power
Saturday X2 Yoga

I also recently switched over to the new Chocolate Shakeology formula, and am loving the change. I am not quite sure yet what I am going to do for a workout schedule once this round is over. I am thinking maybe Body Beast/Insanity, but we will see.

New Year’s Resolutions

2012-12-27 13.38.29

I have never been a huge fan of New Year’s Resolutions. I have tried to live to the best of my ability all the time, not just the first week after the calendar flips from December to January.

This year is a little bit different. Danielle and I came up with a short list of things that we would like to do better this year (organizing our house/life better). We agreed to each lose 10 pounds by my birthday (March 9th) yesterday and I am very much looking forward to the challenge. If I am able to lose 10 pounds in 3 months, I will usher in my 30’s weighing less than I have since college.

My current plan to accomplish this is to continue with the P90X2/Insanity hybrid I am currently working on, while rededicating myself to my 1900 calorie diet and cutting out all of the crap food that has crept into my diet since Halloween. If I have a weakness, it is candy, and there has been too damn much of it around our house these last few months.

To help me recommit, I will be getting back to using MyFitnessPal on my phone and computer to help me track what I am eating and ensure that I am hitting my goals.

I am also going to continue to drink my Shakeology every day. Beach Body just revamped their chocolate Shakeology formula and I have a bag of it on its way to my house as I type this. I have been drinking Greenberry every day since the end of the summer and am excited to try out something different for a while.

Danielle has committed to 3 months of Turbo Fire, which she started yesterday and promised me she would not skip today, even though last night was New Year’s Eve. I am hoping she will allow me to post updates to her progress here.

I am purchasing Les Mills Combat today and will mix in those workouts to my P90X2/Insanity routine when it arrives, along with updates about the workouts.

If anyone out there is interested in joining us on our three month New Year’s challenge, let me know either here in the comments section or on Facebook and we can set up a group to keep ourselves accountable. All Beach Body programs are available through the shopping cart link on the right side of this site. If you have any questions about workout programs, supplements or Shakeology, please do not hesitate to send them my way.

The first step towards a healthier, more organized life is a healthier you.

So What Now?

I finished Body Beast back in November and haven’t really updated with what I am doing now for a couple of reasons.

I started a new job that has me getting to work earlier, which has really effected my ability to get my workout in in the morning.

I started a P90X2-Insanity Hybrid right after finishing Body Beast, and so far I am enjoying it. I like that I can do the shorter Insanity workouts in the morning without having to mess around with getting equipment out and then cleaning up (I workout in the the living room). Where I have struggled is with getting my workout in after work. If I don’t get right to it when I get home, I get distracted, or end up waiting until my daughter gets off the bus to get started (I hate interrupting the workout) and then I get busy with her.

I am working to get into a routine of coming right home and working out immediately so to not allow myself to get lazy.

I am definitely in more of a maintenance mode, instead of a 90-day challenge mode right now.

Les Mills Combat was just released this week and I am going purchase it because I am feeling a bit in a rut with what I am currently doing.

I also have a Shakeology update in the works. I am in the process of ordering more samples of all three flavors of Shakeology to send out for people interested in trying before they buy. I am still drinking my Greenberry every morning mixed with vanilla whey protein, ice and water. It helps me get from 5 am- 11:15 when I have my first break without feeling hungry or a lack of energy.

If you are interested in ordering Les Mills Combat, you can follow This Link.

If you are interested in trying a months worth of Shakeology, risk free, you can follow This Link.

I think with the change in seasons, and the change in schedule, I need something new to break me out of my rut, and Les Mills Combat is going to be that thing that does it for me.

Les Mills Combat

I have been meaning to write about this for a while now.

Beachbody has released an MMA style training program, Les Mills Combat.

I am very interested in giving this program a shot (I don’t know when I will squeeze it in with The Asylum 2 available now.) But I would love to give this program a shot.

I wrote a while ago about TapouT XT an MMA style training/conditioning program that at the time I was very interested in. I never gave TapouT a shot, but not for lack of interest.

I have had great results with Beachbody programs, and trust that they have another great one here. I love the idea of a high intensity, MMA style workout. I would love at some point to get involved with Mixed Martial Arts training, and this could be a great lead into that.

According to Beachbody’s website:

LES MILLS COMBAT =

GET TOTALLY SHREDDED IN 60 DAYS!
Carve a lean, chiseled body in just 60 days with this fearsomely intense, utterly exhilarating, mixed martial arts-driven workout. With LES MILLS COMBAT—now available for pre-order—you’ll combine explosive, calorie-scorching moves and fat-shredding sequences from 6 major martial arts disciplines to punch, kick, block, and strike your way to an outrageously strong and sexy body.

The secret? Fast Twitch Integration Training.  LES MILLS COMBAT blends the most dynamic moves from karate, taekwondo, boxing, muay thai/kickboxing, capoeira, and jiu jitsu and combines them in explosive, escalating patterns.  This works your fast-twitch muscle fibers (the ones with the greatest capacity for change) like crazy! You’ll be burning massive amounts of calories during your workouts, and continue burning calories even after your workouts, so you’ll amp up strength and maximize lean muscle definition.  That’s how it builds your best body ever in just 60 days.

If you are interested in ordering, you can follow THIS Link or follow the Shopping Cart link on the upper right hand side of this site.

Feel free to contact me with questions. This is one I am really interested in (Maybe after Asylum 2?)

Insanity: The Asylum Vol. 2

Well, I know what I am doing when I am done with Body Beast at the end of October.

Insanity: The Asylum Vol. 2 is now available. I never completed a full month of The Asylum Vol. 1, but I did do P90X2/Asylum Hybrid over the summer that I had really great results with.

After three months of Body Beast, where the focus has been on building muscle, I am really excited to get back to some hardcore cardio.

I will definitely be ordering this. You cannot beat the price either. At $59.85 ($44.89 for coaches, love that Coach discount!!) you cannot beat the price for an elite training program, which Volume 2 is guaranteed to be.

Right now, the Asylum Vol. 2 is only available through the Team Beachbody store, which you can access through the shopping cart link on right side of this page or by going HERE. If you do not have the equipment that was used in Vol. 1, you can get it HERE. If you have any questions about Asylum Vol 1, or Vol 2, please feel free to ask.

We will definitely be starting up a Facebook group of people doing this together. There really is nothing like the support and motivation you can get from joining a group of like-minded crazies doing one of these at-home programs. If there have been two keys to my success with at-home workouts, the first has been Shakeology (an update is coming in this department) and the support and motivation I have gotten from my Facebook groups.

This has me very excited to finish up with Body Beast.
